Marist International University College (MIUC)

The Marist International University College is founded on Christian principles in general and on the Marist philosophy in particular. The educational philosophy encourages a partnership of Brothers and Lay people, together in mission in the Church and in the world, working to promote the education of the young especially the most neglected in schools and other pastoral and social ministries.

Our Mission: To provide holistic education that will equip the students with Christian values, knowledge and skills for the work of Christian education and development of society.

Our Vision: To be a leading international educational institution that forms graduates who are agents of liberation, transformation and development of humanity. This is in tandem with our motto: "You are the Light of the World"

Our style of educating at Marist International University College is based on a vision that is truly holistic, and that consciously seeks to communicate values. While we share such a vision with many, especially in Church circles, we use a distinctive pedagogical approach that Marcellin and the first Marists initiated and which was innovative in many of its aspects.

We share their intuition that "to bring up children properly, we must love them, and love them all equally". From this principle flow the particular characteristics of the Marist style of educating: presence, simplicity, family spirit, love of work, and following the way of Mary (A Vision for Marist Education, 1998, #97 & 98). These five qualities inform how we carry out our mission.

• Presence: Caring for each other, seeking relationships founded on love, being attentive and welcoming with a sense of openness.
• Simplicity: Being straightforward and genuine, humble and modest, ‘doing good quietly’.
• Family Spirit: We relate to each other as members of a loving family, building community, offering the warmth of welcoming, acceptance and belonging, sharing our successes and failures, setting clear standards of honesty, mutual respect, and tolerance.
• Love for work: Being generous of heart, constant, and persevering in our daily work, confident, visionary, decisive in meeting the needs of our community, and encouraging each other to discover the dignity of our work with young people and with each other. Marists view work as a way to bring purpose and meaning to life. Hence, we encourage hard work and shun laziness.
• In the way of Mary: Seeing Mary as a perfect model of being Marist, tender, strong, constant in faith, open to God’s calling us to our own journey of discipleship. Mary for Marists is an exemplar of the Christian life, as a mother, as one who praised God. She is a woman on a journey of faith, who had 'dust on her feet'.

Marist International University College aims to provide holistic quality training, conduct scientific research, reach out to communities and graduate students who are transformative leaders in education, corporate, and development Sectors, through value based education.

Enlightened and strengthened by the Marist spirituality of passion for God and compassion for people, Marist International University College focuses on disciplined and value-based strategies that provide programmes and services for the education of young people, especially the most neglected, for responsible and productive living in society.

We pay special attention to the following values

• Love of God and neighbour: We show our love for God by how we take care of His creation, including other people around us.
• Respect for human life, lawful authorities & colleagues: We encourage all members of the MIUC community to respect their lives and other people’s lives as sacred; respect and observe the laws of the land and their institutions and also cultivate respectful relationships with people around them.
• Concern for the poor: Following in the footsteps of St. Marcellin Champagnat, our Founder, we are to be genuinely concerned about the poor in body, mind and spirit.
• Integrity: We strive to be people of integrity in all our personal, professional and social lives.
• Generosity: Through individual and corporate activities we endeavour to demonstrate this value as a basic human principle.
• Leadership: We encourage a spirit of leadership in whatever area one can excel in for a fruitful and productive living.
• Patriotism: We encourage all people to actively participate in nation-building as patriots.
• Love for work: We must protect our environment, not only for our own survival but as a thanksgiving to God for His precious gift to mankind.
• Sensitivity to the environment: We strive to be people of integrity in all our personal, professional and social lives.
• Self-discipline: We encourage all members of the MIUC community to observe self-discipline in their relationships in and out of the College.
