Umma University is a Chartered University in Kenya accredited by the Commission for University Education (CUE). The University has two campuses; Thika and Kajiado.
Umma University was established to increase access to quality higher education to diverse individuals and communities. Umma University is ‘the University of the People’ with the objective of delivering knowledge in various platforms from traditional classroom learning, Distance and Open Learning, On-Line courses, and learning using modern technology.
The university combines Islamic moral and ethical orientation with practical learning about business and technology with the aim of nurturing scholars with varied experiences and leaders with ethical approaches to leadership.

Umma University Kajiado Campus currently has affordable accommodation hostels for over 1000 students. The hostels were constructed with the convenience of learning in mind. There are separate hostels for male and female students. The rooms are spacious, well lit, and have inbuilt Internet WiFi connections. The campus has two dining halls; one for ladies and the other for gentlemen. Sufficient and affordable food and beverages are available to students at all times.
In Thika Campus, accommodation is provided to students in hostels within the compound. However, since the university is situated in a residential area, affordable accommodation is available to students close to the campus. Catering is provided by the Student welfare department at a spacious dining hall within the campus. However, the students can patronize hotels and food courts at the nearby shopping center. New students can get information on hostels and catering from the office of the Dean of students on admission.
