The Bachelor degree programme in Sociology and Religion at Egerton University offers a combination of humanistic and social science knowledge required in human attitude formation necessary for personnel management and policy development in society. It provides managerial skills to its graduates in handling social issues such as ethics, marriage, nepotism; tribalism; human rights; child labour; unemployment; among others.

In addition, this degree programme equips the graduates with tools in the challenging dialogue between faith and culture; between the church and society; between the kingdom of God and the temporal realities through which the human family moves towards its destiny. Objectives of B.A. Sociology and Religous Studies

The main objectives of the BA in Sociology an Religous Studies programme at Egerton University are:

  1. To educate and expose students to issues relating to socio-religious development of humanity;
  2. To train and provide expertise in areas of moral and social issues affecting families, governments and other institutions such as UNICEF, UNEP etc
  3. To provide properly trained and skilled personnel in the work place, market and socio-religious institutions in need of managers, and policy makers;
  4. To enable the students to pursue post-graduate studies in religion or sociology.

Entry requirements for B.A. Sociology and Religous Studies

To be eligible for admission to the BA Sociology and Religous Studies ) programme at Egerton University, the applicant must satisfy the general Egerton University admission requirements.
In addition, applicants must have obtained a minimum score of C+ in Social Education and Ethics/Christian Religious Education, Geography or History.

Mininum Entry Requirements for Bachelor's Degree
The entry requirements set out below are only minimum, and they in no way entitle an applicant to a place in the University. Applicants must:

  • Have the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education with an average grade C+ (C plus)passed at one sitting from at least seven subjects drawn from subject groupings as specified by the Kenya National Examinations Council or its equivalent.

OR

  • Have one of the following combinations of passes in the Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education examination:
  • Two (2) Principal passes obtained at the same sitting.

OR

  • Egerton University Statutes 2008 43
  • Two (2) Principal passes obtained at different sittings provided the passes are of Grade C or higher.

OR

  • Hold a Diploma of Egerton University with a 'Credit' pass or higher or an equivalent
  • Qualification from a recognized institution in the relevant field of specialization acceptable to Senate. Those with a 'Pass' Diploma will be considered if they have at least two years relevant experience after graduation.

AND
Meet additional entry requirements as may be specified by the respective Department, Faculty, School or Institute.

To be admitted for a PRE-SERVICE DEGREE PROGRAM, a prospective candidate must have all the requirements set up by the joint Admission Board (JAB), with a prospective IN-SERVICE student must have completed a diplomaprogram in the relevant field and graduated with at least a CREDIT.

B.A. Sociology and Religous Studies Course Subjects

This  BA in Sociology an Religous Studies programme at Egerton University is designed for students wishing to combine Religion and Sociology.
The programme requires a minimum of 120 CFs and a maximum of 144 CFs including the Common Core Courses and courses borrowed from other disciplines. Students will be required to take a minimum of 60 CFs and a maximum of 66 CFs from each department.
The programme will be covered by full-time students in four (4) academic years. Part time students will be allowed to complete the course within eight (8) academic years.
