Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences ( Economics) Program Offered at Catholic University of Eastern Africa

The Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences (Economics) at Catholic University of Eastern Africa seeks to produce high calibre economists capable of providing the most relevant answers to the contemporary economic problems and formulating relevant policies on issues convening sustainable development equitable distribution of income, financial systems and society's welfare in general.

The Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences (Economics) at Catholic University of Eastern Africa aims to:
Impart in students a holistic understanding and sound scholarly judgment of social phenomena and ts bring about a deeper insight into the workings of human society.
Provide a global outlook for dealing with socio-cultural, political and economic changes in contemporary society.
To avail to students the oportunity to develop a constructive and critical mind towards the African society - traditional, modern and post-modern - and to provide them with tools of socialanalysis and synthesis.

To be accepted for the Bachelors of Arts in Social Sciences (Economics) programme at CUEA, a candidate requires:
Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education with the minimum mean grade of C+ (Plus) And a minimum grade of C+ (plus) in English
OR
A Principal pass in the A-Levels in the Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (A-Levels) or GCE A-Level or the equivalent Kenya Advanced Certificate of education with a minimum of 2 principal passes or the equivalent
OR
A Diploma social work from a recognized institution or the equivalent

Depending on the prospective students qualifications the Bacheor of Arts in Social Sciences (Economics) at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa can be either a four year programme, three year programme.

Four Year Bacheor of Arts in Social Sciences (Economics) Programme.
In the first year of study, students shall take two common courses and twelve courses in three options in the following areas: Economics, Sociology, Political Science and Anthropology.
In the second year of study, students shall take two common courses plus twelve courses in three options in the following areas; Economics, sociology, Political Science and Anthropology.
In the third and fourth years of study, non-specializing students shall take eight courses in their major and four courses in their minor in each year. Students specializing in Economics shall take twelve courses in Economics each year.

Three Year Bacheor of Arts in Social Sciences (Economics) Programme.
In the first year, students shall take two common courses and twelve courses in three options in the following areas: Economics, Sociology, Political Science and Anthropology.
In the second year of study, students shall take one common course. Non-specializing students shall take 8 courses in their major and four in their minor while those specializing in economics shall take twelve courses in Economics
In the third year of study, non-specializing students shall take eight courses in their major and four in their minor while those specialising in economics shall take 12 courses in Economics.

To Specialize in Economics, a student must have scored an average grade of B in first and second year examinations for the four-year programme. For the three year programme, a student must have scored an average of B grade in the first year examinations.
