To be accepted for the Bachelors of Arts in Social Sciences (Sociology) programme at CUEA, a candidate requires:
Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education with the minimum mean grade of C+ (Plus) And a minimum grade of C+ (plus) in English
OR
A Principal pass in the A-Levels in the Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (A-Levels) or GCE A-Level or the equivalent Kenya Advanced Certificate of education with a minimum of 2 principal passes or the equivalent
OR
A Diploma social work from a recognized institution or the equivalent

Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences (Sociology) Course Subjects

Depending on the prospective students qualifications the Bacheor of Arts in Social Sciences (Sociology) at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa can be either a four year programme, three year programme.

Four Year Bacheor of Arts in Social Sciences (Sociology) Programme.
In the first year students must take 14 courses. All students shall register for the common courses, Communication Skills and Christian Ethics in the first and second trimesters.
In the second year of study at CUEA, students are required to take 14 courses including tqo common courses, Computer Literacy and Introduction to the Bible.
This requirement means that in the first and second years of study, a four year student shall have satisfied the general requirements of the department, having studied three Social Science disciplines selected from Sociology, Anthropology, Political Science and Economics.
In the third year of study at CUEA, a student is required to take 12 courses. During trimester three the students shall embark on the preparation of a proposal for the research project. The supervisor shall guide the student in the process of research proposal writing and commencement of data collection and analysis. At the end of trimester three the student should be ready to collect data pertaining to the area of research.
In the fourth year of study at CUEA, students are required to take 12 courses. In the first trimester, one out of the six courses will be the Social Science project (a compulsory subject).

Three Year Bacheor of Arts in Social Sciences (Sociology) Programme.
In the first year of study at CUEA, students must register and take 14 courses, including two common courses: Communication Skills and Christain Ethics and Formation in Moral Maturity, offered in the first and second trimesters respectively.
In the second year of study at CUEA, students must take 12 courses. To qualify to specialise in Sociology in the second and third years of study, a candidate must have scored an average B grade at the end of trimester 3, year 1 exams. During the second trimester, students shall embark on the preparation of a proposal for the project. At the end of this trimester, the students should be ready to collect data on the research topic selected.
In the third year of study, students must register for twelve courses. In the first trimester, they must register for all Sociology courses on offer. During the first trimester, the student will register for 6 courses, which will include the Research Project. Students will utilize this trimester to complete the research project for assesment at the end of the trimester.
