About Bachelor of Commerce Bachelors Degree program.

The Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) degree programme of the University of Nairobi prepares undergraduate students for careers in business management both in the public and private sectors of the economy.

To improve on its utility, the programme has been and will continue to be realigned to be consistent with the changing needs of society. Compulsory courses in the degree build a solid foundation of business skills that you will apply to many decisions and issues in the contemporary business environment. These core skills are then further developed in your second and third years as you specialise by undertaking one of the currently available eight distinct options:

  • Accounting,
  • Finance,
  • Marketing,
  • Insurance,
  • Human Resources Management,
  • Business Information Systems,
  • Procurement and Supply Chain Management, and
  • Operations Management,

each one addressing the unique needs of our society.

Objectives of Bachelor of Commerce

Main aims of the Bachelor of Commerce degree programme at the University of Nairobi are:

  • To introduce students to the general issues and approaches to management.
  • To enhance self-confidence and ability to critically evaluate management issues from academic and practical perspectives.
  • To develop awareness of the changing local and international business environments.
  • To prepare students for advancement in their fields of specialization.
  • To instill problem-solving attitudes and business ethics in the practice of management.
  • To inculcate entrepreneurial and self-reliance attitudes and habits in students so that they may be active participants in the creation of new wealth.

Entry requirements for Bachelor of Commerce

Entry requirements for admission to the University of Nairobi Bachelor of Commerce degree programme are:

  • Holder of KCSE certificate with a minimum aggregate of C+ and a minimum of C in Mathematics and English/ Kiswahili or minimum grade of B in bridging course offered in the University of Nairobi with at least a C- in the subject at KCSE.
  • Holder of KCSE (mean grade C-) plus a Certificate and Diploma from a recognized institution.
  • Holder of KACE certificate with a minimum of two principal passes and a minimum of a credit pass in Mathematics at KCE.
  • Holder of a degree from a recognized university.
  • Holder of a diploma from a University of Nairobi senate recognized institution and a minimum aggregate of C at KCSE or O-level Division III.
  • Holder of CPA/CPS Part II or equivalent professional qualification with a minimum aggregate of C at KCSE or O-level Division III.
