Entrepreneurship spirit and Innovation is the backbone of the biggest economies in the world. In this regard, such big economies such as the USA have an education system that emphasizes entrepreneurship and innovation. Small businesses are critical to such big economies and have been invaluable in creation of employment and realization of great economical and social change in form of a strong and vibrant middle class.
This bachelor of entrepreneurship and small business management course (BENS) at Egerton University will create a specific and highly trained manpower that will drive entrepreneurship and provide skilled management in this important sector. In this course (BENS), we seek to provide the student with requisite skills to be entrepreneurs and/or innovators and capable of providing consultation services to already existing businesses.
This course fits perfectly well with the ambitious vision 2030 of the Kenyan government, which promises to make Kenya a middle income country by 2030. Based on experiences from other countries that have witnessed great economical development, it would be impossible for Kenya to achieve such feat, without successful small businesses and a strong entrepreneurial spirit. Therefore this course (BENS), addresses an important national issue i.e. strong and vibrant economy, responsible for its own citizens.
