The B.Sc. in Agriculture and Human Ecology Extension is a double major in Agriculture and Human Ecology. The programme aims at graduating professionals who will adequately advise on the techniques of improving agricultural enterprises, better management and utilization of farm produce, family, and community resources. The graduates will also have skills and knowledge in areas such as project planning and management, entrepreneurship, community consultancy, gender and development, appropriate technology among others that address community development issues. The B.Sc. Programme in Agriculture and Human Ecology Extension at Egerton University is one of its kind in East Africa integrating two areas of study crucial for any country‟s growth and development.

Objectives of BSc Agriculture and Human Ecology Extension

The objectives of the programme are to:

  • Equip students with skills necessary for improving the physical, psychological and socio-economic development and well being of individuals, families and the community.
  • Prepare students with competencies needed for employment in agricultural extension, rural and urban development, micro and small enterprises.
  • Enable students acquire research skills to effectively address issues affecting the quality of life of individuals, families and communities.

Entry requirements for BSc Agriculture and Human Ecology Extension

Applicants must satisfy entry requirements for admission into the University. In addition the applicants must:-

  • Have passed KCSE with the minimum grades in the subjects indicated below.
    • Biology B or Biological Sciences B
    • Chemistry B or Physical Sciences B
    • Mathematics C+ or Mathematics C+
  • Applicants with a Diploma with Credit or Pass with at least two years of relevant experience at Diploma level in Agriculture related fields from Institutions recognized by Egerton University, will be considered.

BSc Agriculture and Human Ecology Extension Course Subjects

The degree programme may be undertaken either as fulltime or as part time for a minimum of 160 Credit Factors. The duration of study may vary from two and a half years to four academic years, depending on Credit hour Transfer from previous Diploma training from Institutions recognised by Egerton University Senate, for full time students and five to eight years for part- time students.
