About International Trade and Investments Law Masters program.

International trade law is the set of laws and agreements that govern commerce between countries. International trade laws create the rules that countries and businesses must follow in order to do business across borders. Lawyers who work in the field help create international agreements.

International investment law is a body of law that regulates the treatment of foreign direct investment and foreign investors. The system of international investment law has no central treaty or institution. This field of law comprises bilateral investment treaties (BITs) and investment chapters in preferential trade agreements made between countries.

A vast number of existing and emerging trade arrangements in developing states particularly in Africa are failing mainly because partner states entered into bilateral and regional trade agreements without due regard to the implications appurtenant to such arrangements.

This Master of Laws in International Trade and Investments Law program offered at the University of Nairobi has been designed for students who are interested in gaining further skills and specializing in specific areas of law.

The program will enable students with a bachelor’s degree in law to delve into emerging areas of law at the national, regional and international levels.
