POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA IN PSYCHOACTIVE SUBSTANCE ABUSE - objectives

The main objective of this Postgraduate Diploma in Psychoactive substance abuse programme at the University of Nairobi is to develop competent personnel with knowledge and skills necessary to manage psychoactive substance abused and traded in Kenya, adjacent countries and beyond.

Entry requirements

The following shall be eligible for entry to the Postgraduate Diploma in Psychoactive substance abuse programme at the University of Nairobi:



Candidates with a degree in education, psychology, social work, sociology, criminology and theology from an institution approved by the Senate of the University of Nairobi.


Candidates with a degree in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and nursing or an equivalent qualification from an institution approved by the senate of the University of Nairobi.


Due to specialised and practical nature of this course,there shall be no transfer of credits except in extraordinary circumstances, in which case not more than one unit in theory course shall be transferred and a payment of the prescribed exemption fee is made.

POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA IN PSYCHOACTIVE SUBSTANCE ABUSE - course content

 

Postgraduate Diploma in Psychoactive Substance Abuse programme at the University of Nairobi comprises 5 theory courses; practicum and a research project.


The Postgraduate Diploma in Psychoactive substance abuse programme at the University of Nairobi covers one academic year consisting of 3 semesters of 15 weeks each.


A candidate may remain registered in the programme for a period of up to 9 semesters.


A candidate may take a minimum of 2 courses and a maximum of 3 courses per semester.




Course Outline


Statistics and Research Methods, Illicit Psychoactive Substance Trade, Substance Dependence, Management of Disorders of Substance Dependence, Establishment of service to address Drug Dependence, Practicum in Substance Dependence, Research Project.
