Programme Details:

The Diploma in programme in Estate Agency and Property Management at the University of Nairobi, seeks to sensitise students on the importance of property management in the region.


The course is designed to meet the increasing demand for higher level of responsibility, accountability and expertise I persons engaged in the practice of selling, letting and managing real estate in Kenya.



Entry Requirements:

 



  • KCSE certificate with a minimum aggregate of C or equivalent with minimum passes at C in mathematics and English.

  • KCE certificate with a minimum grade of Division II and credits in Maths and English or Division II and credits in Maths and English or Division III plus a certificate or an equivalent professional training.



  • KACE qualification with a minimum of one (1) principal pass, or equivalent.



  • A holder of a Diploma or an equivalent qualification from an institution recognised by the University of Nairobi Senate.



  • Holder of a degree from the University of Nairobi or from any other Institution recognised by the University of Nairobi Senate.

Course Objective

 Objectives



  • To equip practitioners in estate agency and property management with the technical skills, knowledge and values appropriate to their current practice or preferred career path



  • To enable a wide cross-section of individuals to pursue diploma training while still pursuing their careers.



  • To contribute to the development of a wide range of demand driven skills, incorporating new thinking and practices in the real estate industry.



  • To give successful trainees strategic advantage in an increasingly sophisticated network of national and regional institutions and economies in the property industry.



  • To provide an alternative avenue of entry to the B.A in Land Economics (Bachelor of Real Estate) degree at the University of Nairobi

Course Programme

Course Structure and Duration




  • Curriculum covers a minimum of 2 semesters and a maximum period of 5 semesters of 15 weeks each.



  • The programme consists of lectures, coursework, seminars, fieldwork, supervised independent study, including a written final examination and a research project.



  • Candidates will be expected to take a minimum load of 2 units and maximum load of 5 units each semester.



  • Candidates shall be required to successfully take 9 approved course units, and a project paper.



  • The research project will be taken as equivalent to 1 course unit.

Economics of Land Use, Elements of Law, Nature and Principles of Real Property, Building Construction and Services, Principles of Land Management.


Level Two


Property Management, Principles of Valuation, Real Estate Agency, Computer Applications in Estate Agency and Property Management, Research Project.
