 The main objective of this programme is to develop competent personnel to address psychiatric social and related issues in Kenya,the surrounding geographical region and beyond.

Entry Requirements:

Candidates with a first degree in social sciences from the University of Nairobi or any other Institution approved by the Senate of the University of Nairobi.

Course Objective

Course Programme

Course structure and duration

1. 
   

   The programme comprises 8 theory courses; practicum and a research project.

   
   
2. 
   

   The programme covers one academic year consisting of three semesters of 15 weeks each.

   A candidate may remain registered in the programme for a period of up to 9 semesters.

   A candidate may take a minimum of three courses and a maximum of four courses per semesters.

Social Work Practice, Social Psychology, Psychopathology Childhood and Adolescent Psychological Disorders, Adult and Geriatric Psychological Disorders, The Practice of Psychiatric Social Work, Forensic and Ethical Aspects of Psychological Practice, Statistics and Research Methods, Practicum in Psychiatric Social Work, Project.

Transfer of Credits

Due to the specialised and practical nature of the course, there shall be no transfer of credits except in extraordinary circumstances,in which case not more than one unit in theory course shall be transferred and on payment of a prescribed exemption fee.
