Being a university student

University propels you into a professional career. Bachelor degrees take at least three years full-time - many take four. You will have the opportunity to learn a lot of underpinning knowledge and complete some practical work too.

With thousands of courses offered over many campuses, choose the one that best fits you. Consider each campus against your own criteria:

  • Full-time, Part-time or Online
  • Length of course
  • Location and Accessibility
  • Accommodation
  • Fees, material costs
  • Assessment methods
  • University facilities
  • University services
  • Extra-curricular activities
  • Destination stats and career outcomes

Lectures, libraries and holidays

At university, you are in total control, so bring loads of initiative with you.  You will plan your own schedule, attend large lectures and smaller tutorials, seek out your required assignments, adhere to strict due dates, accomplish professional research, and manage your study load with hours of self-directed learning.

The biggest shock to school leavers is that nobody tells them what to do, or when.  Be prepared for this, and actively manage yourself and your assignments.

Check-in with yourself after the first semester and seek advice and support early if you are struggling. Consider changing courses or taking a leave of absence.

University is a long-term investment in YOU. It's vital you decide and commit to this choice. If you do, you will thank yourself later in life.
