Certificate in Information Technology (CIT) Program Offered at Institute of Advanced Technology

The Maseno University Certificate in Information Technology programme is designed to equip students with practical knowledge and skills in the broad and fast-changing field of Information and Communications Technology (ICT).

The certificate holders of this programme may be either self-employed or find employment as ICT support staff in areas such as data entry, cyber bureau, Call Centers, Business Process Outsourcing, and other ICT support services. The programme also prepares students for further education.

The duration of the programme shall normally be Two Academic semesters.

The Certificate  in Information Technology programme graduates shall be able to apply the gained practical and theoretical skills to:

• Provide ICT support services.
• Install, configure, and operate various types of operating systems software.
• Install, configure, and operate various types of client application software.
• Identify and exploit various ICT-based small business opportunities for self-employment, particularly in areas such as data entry, multimedia and graphics, etc.
• Communicate information, ideas, problems, and ICT-based solutions effectively.
• Demonstrate professionalism, ethics, legal, security, and social responsibilities as well as best practices and standards and their application in ICT field

To be admitted into Certificate in ICT, a candidate must satisfy the minimum admission requirements as follows:

• KCSE candidates with a mean grade of D+ and D or above in Mathematics and English.
• KCSE mean grade D with Proficiency Certificate in Computer Application Packages of Maseno University Information Technology centre and may be granted credit transfers in the relevant courses as approved by the School of Computing Informatics.
• KCSE mean grade D with CISCO IT Essentials.
• Other qualifications recognized and accepted by Maseno University Senate.
