Health record technicians organize and manage health information data by ensuring its quality accuracy, accessibility and security in both paper and electronic systems. By use of technology they classify, code and categorize patient information for databases and registries and maintain patient medical and treatment histories.

This Diploma in Health Records and Information Technology provides a strong foundation for Information professionals competent in health records management and health research. The course encourages the learner to be versed with the current trends in ICT and it equips the learner with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to perform automated health system operations, system analysis, design and development besides performing network system and support duties.

Objectives of Health Records and Information Technology

The Diploma in Health Records & Information Technology exposes learners to the current trends in ICT and equips them with knowledge, skills, and attitudes to perform automated and manual health system operations, system analysis, design and development, support duties, and solving actual public health informational issues and problems. 
By the end of the programme, the learners will have acquired the necessary knowledge and skills that will enable the learners to:-
  • To equip students with both theoretical and practical knowledge and skills pertaining to clinical practice
  • To produce graduates who can apply effectively and efficiently the acquired knowledge, skills and abilities in maintaining and securing patients health records.
  • To prepare students for progression to a higher level of studies in their fields of specialisation

Entry requirements for Health Records and Information Technology

  • KCSE Mean grade: C- minus or Equivalent qualifications as determined by Kenya National Qualifications Authority or Cert in HRIT
