About Irrigation and Drainage Engineering Certificate program.

The Certificate in Irrigation and Drainage Engineering of Kenya Water Institute (KEWI) is a two year programme with one graded industrial attachment session in the third semester of the first year lasting 12 continuous weeks.

This Certificate in Irrigation and Drainage Engineering course looks into the socio-technical nature of sustainability challenges of irrigation, including objectives, tasks, modalities and challenges in irrigation management and development.

Irrigation and Drainage Engineering covers all phases of irrigation, drainage engineering, hydrology and related water management subjects such as watershed management, weather modification, water quality, groundwater and surface water.

Entry requirements for Irrigation and Drainage Engineering

The minimum qualification for entry to the craftsman certificate programme in Irrigation and Drainage Engineering is as follows:

  • Kenya certificate of Secondary Education with an aggregate mean grade D+ (plus), or
  • An approved equivalent qualification which may be from Kenya or from other countries
  • A minimum grade of D+ in each of the following subjects: English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry or Physical Sciences.

N/B Equation of international academic qualifications shall be done in consultation with Kenya National Examinations council (KNEC).
