The meat industry in Kenya faces a challenging future as a result of changing consumer attitudes on issues such as food safety, animal welfare and general health-related needs.

Well qualified and adaptable Veterinary ParaProfessionals (Meat Inspectors), technical managers are needed to respond positively to problems and marketing opportunities.

This Meat Inspection Course trains individuals to become meat inspectors.

Meat inspectors ensure that commercial supplies of meat, poultry, and eggs comply with health regulations as set by the Government.

Meat inspectors work at private commercial slaughtering plants, inspecting animals before and after slaughter. They also ensure the processing plant meets all governament regulations for processing and sanitation. When not completing inspections, meat inspectors work in an office setting, often writing reports and making recommendations.

Entry requirements for Meat Inspection

  • Bachelor of Science in animal health and production or animal health or Animal Health and Range Management
  • Diploma in animal health and production or animal health or Animal Health and Range Management
  • Certificate in animal health and production or animal health or Animal Health and Range Management
