TSMHS has five campuses with its main campus in Thika and has four satellite campuses in Kitui, Kisumu, Mombasa, and Nairobi-Karen.

This institution has been audited and accredited by the following Professional bodies that standardize various programmes of training in Kenya. They include:

  • Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board
  • Clinical Officers Council
  • Kenya Nutritionists and Dieticians Institute
  • Kenya Counseling Association
  • Society of Radiography

Thika School of Medical and Health Sciences (TSMHS) prides itself as the only middle-level technical college that offers hospital-based training for all its courses. All our students attend practical clinical exposure in various health facilities in the country. This ensures that our students have actual hospital experience even before they proceed for their hospital attachment in their respective programmes of training. This has ensured that our graduates are efficiently prepared to work rather than be trained when they seek employment. While we acknowledge that learning is a continuous process, we appreciate the fact that the college has prepared graduates that can perform their duties without much follow-up.

Our institution has established links, collaborations, and Memorandum of Understanding with various health facilities in different parts of Kenya that include:

  • Thika Level V Hospital,
  • Kiambu Level IV Hospital,
  • Gatundu Level IV Hospital,
  • Ruiru Sub-District Hospital,
  • Thika Nursing Home,
  • Ruiru Private Hospital,
  • Githunguri Health Center,
  • Karuri Health Center,
  • Ngoliba Health Center,
  • Munyu Health Center,
  • Kiandutu Health Center all in Kiambu County,
  • Maragua Level v Hospital in Murang’a County.

In order to strengthen our training capacity and to acquire experience in various clinical areas, the college is in the process of signing Memorandum of Understanding with health facilities in other counties, that include:  Mombasa Coast General Hospital in Mombasa County, Kisumu County Referral Hospital, and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching & Referral Hospital in Kisumu County, and Kitui County Hospital in Kitui County.

Why study at Thika School of Medical and Health Sciences

Thika School of Medical and Health Sciences(TSMHS) is a hospital-based institution, and an affiliate of the famous Thika Nursing Home (which is only two minutes away from the school) as well as the Ruiru Private Hospital, this medical training facility gives students a great opportunity to get hands-on experience and practice in the realm of their training. And unlike other medical training institutions, the students get to choose between two different hospital environments, namely Thika and Ruiru.

According to the humble director of the School and hospitals Dr. B. D. Vasisht, the rationale behind starting this training school was to give back to the community by offering quality and affordable training and education to young people who will go on building communities.

TSMHS aims to provide high-quality education to students by developing a suitable combination of skills, knowledge, and attitude to enable them to meet the challenges posed by globalization. Besides implementing a curriculum that meets the needs of the students and health sector, TSMHS also absorbs best performing students in its two private hospitals in Thika and Ruiru.

The school provides hostels and meals for students who want to board and be close to the training institution. Annually, the school hosts a cultural day with a number of interesting activities for the students. The school also has other extra-curricular activities like sports, trips, and motivational sessions.
