About Certificate in Early Childhood Development Education Certificate program.

The certificate course in Early Childhood Development Education at Kenyatta University is expected to capture those individuals who are interested in this area but were not able for one reason or another to get higher academic grades. The graduates of this programme will be expected to work at grass root levels and especially with communities in  ensuring  that  prospective mothers provide quality  care  to  young  children. In  addition, these graduates may be deployed in children homes and in religious and non-governmental organizations dealing with young children.
The minimum duration for the full time residential programme is a period of two semesters and three sessions for the institutional based mode (August, December, and April).

Objectives of Certificate in Early Childhood Development Education

This practical course will prepare you to enter a rewarding industry where you’ll provide education and care to children during their most influential years. 

Upon completion, you will be a qualified early childhood educator with skills and knowledge in:

  • childhood development (aesthetic, creative, physical)
  • planning for children with additional needs
  • networking and family partnerships

Entry requirements for Certificate in Early Childhood Development Education

A Mean grade of C- (minus) in KCSE or equivalent or minimum of D+ with one year of relevant experience in Early Childhood programme with at least a D+ in either English or Kiswahili.

The program consists of 12 units (including teaching practice and attachment). In order to qualify for the award of the certificate candidate must pass all the 17 units. The distribution of the units is as follows:
