About Kenya Registered Community Health Nurse (KRCHN) Diploma program.

The Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing course is a combination of three major areas of nurse training, namely; General Nursing, Community Health nursing and Midwifery.

The goal of the program is to train nurses who will complement the nurses’ cadre of health care providers in meeting the many and ever changing patient needs in our contemporary society and who will demonstrate competence in addressing and managing the emerging health care challenges locally, regionally and globally.

This will be achieved through the effective implementation of the institutional curriculum that is tailored towards realizing the institutional vision and mission of being a leading regional medical training college of excellence in training of nurses and other health professionals.

The training takes 3 1/2   years which includes both theoretical experience and clinical practice.

Intake: March and September every year

Application Deadline: February and August

Objectives of Kenya Registered Community Health Nurse (KRCHN)

This is a basic diploma course in nursing. At the end of the training,
the graduate will be a qualified clinical nurse, community nurse and
also a midwife.

At the end of the programme the graduate diploma nurse should have:

  • Been prepared as a competent practitioner who will function effectively in being able to assess, plan, implement and evaluate professional standards of care.
  • Developed more awareness of professional responsibility and accountability.
  • Enhanced communication skills to enable him/her communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Acquired knowledge and skills to carry out research.
  • Been able to identify factors, which influence the promotion of health and prevention of illness.
  • Acquired skills, knowledge and attitudes to broaden management abilities and to be an effective health educator.

Entry requirements for Kenya Registered Community Health Nurse (KRCHN)

  • Minimum entry age –  17 years
  • Aggregate KCSE (mean grade) C plain or KCE division II
  • The mandatory subjects should include a minimum of:
    • C plain English or Kiswahili
    • C plain in Biology or Biological sciences
    • C-(minus) in Mathematics or physics/chemistry/physical sciences
